When Bowl’d opened it’s doors for the first time a few years ago, I was there to capture the opening evening and the infectious vibe that this restaurant – bar & lounge is famous for. It was the place to be, and still is, now having matured into a sought-after upmarket eatery and meeting place for top execs, politicians and the like…

We start our evening off with a cocktail at the beautiful marble bar, which overlooks the pool courtyard at Masingita Towers in the heart of Sandton.
It really does feel very exclusive here, but not in a clique-y way, as the staff is overwhelmingly friendly and welcoming, showing us around the rest of the restaurant and private dining and conferencing areas.
We move on to our seating for dinner and decide on a Starter Mixed Platter – with a glass of red for Don and something special and non-alcoholic for me, mixed by the obviously-experienced bar lady. It tastes like love!

The starter platter arrives and it is a carnivore’s dream: Beef, Chicken, Prawn and Fish skewers, all on one plate. Delightfully presented. We chat away about cricket in South Africa (there is a game on the TV mounted over the bar), skills that young people should be learning in high school and if we are ready for our upcoming house-move.
The starter platter leaves us close to satisfied, but we decide that we really should try one of Bowl’d’s signature bowls – so we order one Salmon Poke. Fresh, crunchy and colourful it is the perfect offset for the tempura starter that we just enjoyed.

The night coversation drifts through the open windows over the twinkling Sandton skyline and we finish the evening with, yes, our decaf Americanos with pouring cream.
Thank you for hosting us Team – you truly bowled us over!
