The other day Olives and Plates opened their new venue in Waterfall and got Amanda to take some photographs for them. She was there on opening night and was so impressed that she decided to take me there. Situated in the Ellipse Luxury Apartment building, the site is very exclusive, and the views are breathtaking.

As we enter, we are greeted by Agnello. He shows us to a special table and asks our waiter Patricia to ensure that we are well looked after. The decor is elegant, with accents of blue and orange. Sunrise and sunset colors. Cozy and inviting with a modern twist. The effort to entice the senses from the moment one enters through the elevator doors is evident. Marble tabletops with plush velvet cushions. Leather booths contrast with linen chairs. We are intrigued.

To start off we order a Bordeaux Blend from Tulbagh. The Saronsberg Seismic 2019 is a bold wine with flavors of dark fruit, cassis, and integrated oak. While we relax and sip our wine, we decide to snack on the Meze Platter. It is not every day that you have the option of artichokes, halloumi, and olives served with tzatziki, hummus, and a chili feta dip. What an amazing spread and no better way to tantalize the tastebuds.

I have just completed a 24-hour fast and after those splendid hors d’oeuvres I am ravenous. As I browse the menu looking for a generous steak, the rib-eye catches my attention. I enquire from our waitron about the size, and she informs me that it is 400g on the bone. I am pleasantly surprised. This is exactly what I want. Amanda orders the Grilled Marinated Calamari, which is a little smaller, but also precisely what she is looking for.

We are not disappointed. The food is delicious. The flavors are fantastic. And the evening is incredible. After some time of wining and dining, we are satisfied. The only missing detail now is our decaf americanos with pouring cream. We sit and enjoy them and reminisce on a wonderful occasion.
