The first time I had ever heard of or gone to a Hussar Grill was in Camps Bay. This was on the 1st of January after attending a Goldfish concert the previous night. Needless to say, I was a little tender. Despite my delicate state I was impressed and vowed to return.
Tonight, some one and a half years later we are dining at The Hussar Grill Waterfall Corner. As we enter, we are greeted by bookcases stacked with wine bottles, oak barrels, and vintage books. The dark wood and leather interior gives it a warm sophisticated feel. We take our seats. Moments later we are presented with a welcome bite platter made up of sweet potato crips and olives.

The restaurant boasts an award-winning wine list that pairs well with any of its meals. And if you do decide to bring your own bottle along there is no corkage charge. After browsing the collection, I decide on the Nederburg Double Barrel Reserve. This smooth Bordeaux Blend with dark fruit and chocolate notes has a pleasant lingering aftertaste.

We sip our wine slowly and wonder why we have not been here before. After some time chatting, we decide to have a look at the menu. My favorite cut at a steakhouse is the 600g T-bone. Medium to rare with a side salad. Amanda’s choice is the Chicken Stack. Oven-roasted vegetables stacked with grilled chicken breasts and topped with a tomato confit. That is a mouthful.

Once again, delightful company, delicious food, and wine in a pleasant atmosphere making for the perfect evening.
For dessert, we order our usual decaf americanos with pouring cream. But our waiter feels that we need to have something more “desserty”. She brings us each a complimentary Chocolate Vodka Martini. Thank you Ayanda.

Before we leave, we realize that they have a date night special on Tuesday nights. You can enjoy a 2 or 3 course meal with a complimentary bottle of The Hussar Grill 50th red. We might just have to move date night to a Tuesday night.
