As an influencer, Amanda was invited to the re-opening of the Scotch and Soda store in Sandton City. The event was also the launch of their summer collection. Aloha Amsterdam meets Elvis. Their outfits have a mix of classic and contemporary. I found myself eyeing a few items. Apart from dazzling us with the new store format and beautiful designs we were served prosecco and canapes. As one does at these events we mingled with the other influencers. One of them remembered that Thursday night was date night and gave us a recommendation for a place around the corner. After perusing, nibbling, and sipping, we excused ourselves and went in search of Second Story.
This restaurant prides itself on being unique and different. I would say they are very cosmopolitan. From tacos to pizzas, pasta, burgers, and steaks. Their food; as they put it; appeals to many different pallets. Thursday nights they also happen to have a sushi special. How could we say no? We decided to share the 6pc tempura prawns and the 8 pc california salmon. I must admit I have at one stage in my life pronounced tempura, tampuri. Not my finest moment. A glass of prosecco and a glass of Merlot is the perfect complement, especially after the earlier hors d’oeuvres.
We remarked that Amanda had previously been invited to the Dior and Guess store openings here in Sandton. And that I had accompanied her as a plus one on both occasions. Coincidentally those were also on Thursday evenings and provided us with the perfect excuse to dine in the area.
After our usual choice of dessert, we pay the bill. We noticed the substantial discount that Sushi Special Thursday provided us with. Content, we embark upon the great trek back to the other side of the Jukskei River. Upon returning home we are met with power rationing. Good thing Amanda ordered that coffee at the restaurant and did not decide to make it at home.
