Boasting a prime spot, The Baron is perfectly located in the new Irene Link Precinct. On a cold winter evening, it looks warm and inviting.
We are punctual for our 7 o’clock reservation. Our waiter Steyn greets us at the door and shows us to our table. The interior is eclectic with a relaxed ambience. There are hanging plants among the woven lampshades. The central fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere. We admire the cocktail bar in the back of the restaurant, the lights and sign in the mirror are picturesque. We snuggle into our armchairs and are presented with the wine list.

We select the 2021 Warwick First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a bold vintage with flavors of oak, plum, and dark fruits. We sit back and relax, sip our wine, and discuss family life. We ponder on the future and where life will lead us in the next few years. We are checked upon every so often by our server. At some point, we order our mains.

Tonight, we both go for the New York Sirloin. Amanda has the 200g Portuguese style and I have the 300g with the Blue Cheese Sauce. Each with a side salad. They are prepared completely different, yet the wine pairs superbly with either.

As we relish our meal, the conversation returns to our prospects and opportunities. We feel the need to challenge ourselves and improve our situation. The Cape is beckoning, but as always that first step feels daunting.
As the night progresses, we cannot forget about our decaf americanos with pouring cream. We savor them in front of the fire. We are excited about our opportunities. Feeling satisfied and content we embark on our journey back home.
