Tucked away on Club Avenue in the leafy Pretoria suburb of Waterkloof lies Prosopa. The name is the Greek word for faces. This stylish and elegant Greek fine dining restaurant has an old-school charm. A place where men wear dinner jackets and women coats. When you enter the venue, the focus is on the fireplace in the center. You can see the light flickering on the faces of the patrons as they mingle here at night. Draperies discretely divide the semi-private booths from each other affording the well-heeled clientele an exclusive experience. There are also smaller cozy tables for two around the hearth. On a cold winter evening, this creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Our reservation is for six. I travel from the office and Amanda meets me here. She is the first to arrive and decides on our wine for the evening. The Rainbow’s End Mystical Corner Red Blend and sparkling water. While enjoying the wine our waiter Wesley brings us a complimentary plate of fried Brinjals. He is very attentive and keeps our glasses filled. Teased by the pre-starter, we order a plate of Dolmades and Haloumi with Greek yogurt.

We have a busy weekend lying ahead and discuss the finer details all the while savoring our appetizers. For mains, Amanda orders the Haloumi Salad, and for me the Ribeye Steak with a Greek side salad. As you can imagine the delicious Mediterranean dishes and wine from award-winning wine lists combined with the romantic mood is the perfect setting for date night.

When it comes to ordering dessert Amanda chooses the Greek-Style Prosopa-made Yogurt which consists of roasted pecans, honey, and frozen berries. To go with that we have two decaf americanos and take them closer to that fireplace. After a wonderful evening, we are reluctant to leave our dreamy state. We might be lighting our own fire at home. Till next time, thank you and goodnight.
