Nestled in the quaint Morgenster center, along a fine avenue of Roxburgh pines, lies the Village Bistro. A charming little restaurant with a rustic touch. The stone wall cladding gives it a country feel. There is a calmness that comes with the large trees that were planted more than 100 years ago by Bertie van der Byl, the then-owner of the farm. The area boasts a vibrant history rich in culture.
I have driven past the center many times over the years, always with the intention of coming here for dinner. But never did. Until one day, Amanda stumbles upon it and suggests date night here.
The sign on the outside is not properly illuminated and spells “AGE BISTRO”. This gives it even more character. We are warmly welcomed and shown to our table. It is a weeknight, and the place is packed. After being presented with our menus, I examine the wine list. The L´Avenir Horizon Pinotage 2021 catches my eye. We order it and sip it slowly while admiring our surroundings and chatting away.

They have an extensive menu and serve anything from pizza and pasta to seafood and steak. I order the T-bone with vegetables and Amanda the baked Melanzane. To share we have the Italian Salad. We are not disappointed with our choice.

While taking photographs one of the other customer’s curiosity gets the better of them and they venture over to enquire about what we are doing. We get to discussing our blog, what we do, and where we come from. Turns out they live close by and frequent the place quite often.
When it comes to desserts, we are informed that they do not have decaf coffee. So we settle for normal americanos instead. I hope this will not be a problem and that I will be able to sleep. Turns out not to be an issue.
