Amanda surprises me with the choice of restaurant this evening. Well at least up until the point where she has to tell me where to drive to. Hazelwood has become something like the Parkhurst of Pretoria. More and more restaurants are opening. Some are closing but the general trend is upward. The sign says; ‘The Old East Precinct’. There is a selection of restaurants, bistros, cafés and boutique retailers. You can go there for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a quick coffee.
The spot for this evening is the Fat Zebra. They have 2 other branches, one in Linden and the other in Parkhurst. Their menu has a large variety of options, even some vegetarian and vegan choices.

To start off we order the Veggie ‘Z’ Platter. The appetizing and well-presented board pairs well with the Vondeling Petit Rouge Merlot.

The place next door, Double Dutch, seems busier. Their music is also louder. Prompting the manager to ask them to turn it down. He comes over and apologizes to us. We are not too concerned, we were enjoying it.
For mains, we go with the banting burgers. Beef for me and Falafel for Amanda. They are served on an avo and parmesan green salad. The food is delicious, and the ingredients are fresh and simple.

With so many eateries in the vicinity, we decide not to do dessert there. Instead, we try out some of the other places. Amanda gets herself a coffee at Aroma, but unfortunately, they do not have the regular glass of red wine for me. Luckily the coffee is a takeaway so we go to Alfies where I order my nightcap. We choose a quiet part of the restaurant and continue our conversation. It is getting late and the places are closing. We settle our bill and thank our waiter before walking off into the night.
